Meeting Orlando Bloom!

New videos added October 15th, 2007!
I’ve debated putting my encounter with Orlando Bloom on the site, because I know not everyone cares, but I figured, since the stories on this site are about him, maybe you’d all be interested. So here’s what happened.

I flew to London, England, on September 10th, arrived on the 11th, and went to “In Celebration” that very same night. The show was amazing (I’ll post a review in a separate blog later on), and while we were waiting for it to actually start, my friend Tara and I ended up talking to one of Orlando’s security team in the lobby. I had to go in my wheelchair because of the stress of the trip causing pain in my back and hips, and we told the guard that we’d like to wait for Orlando after the show. He said he’d make arrangements for us to do so safely, then brought over Alice, the Duke of York’s Theatre Manager, to meet us and explain the situation. She was very, very sweet, and told us to meet her in the lobby after the show, and she’s escort us outside.

As I said, the show was amazing, and afterwards we met Alice in the lobby, as planned. She had two security guards with her, and they separated the crowd waiting outside the theatre, and guided Tara and I to a spot in front of the barriers. I was so excited, I was shaking! There were some dirty looks from some of the girls in the crowd, but for the most part, everyone was really nice. We waited for almost an hour, but then Orlando came out and the noise from the crowd was deafening! He spotted us immediately and came right over to me. He gave me the biggest grin, then bent down to sign my programme. He asked me my name and called me “love,” just like I always imagined he’d say it, and I thought I would stop breathing right there. I told him my name, and he wrote it on my programme without even asking how to spell it (most people have to ask). When he was done, he stood up and I handed him the gift I’d brought, explaining that I’d meant to give it to him at the POTC 2 premiere the year before, but had ended up in the hospital with back pain and couldn’t go. He got this really concerned look on his face and asked if I was okay now (again, my heart almost stopped!). I assured him I was, and handed him the letter a friend had sent to me from Argentina to give to him. I told him where it was from, and that my own letter was tucked inside it, and he assured me he’d read it and thanked me for bringing it. He then thanked me for coming out to see him, shook my friend’s hand, and moved on.

He was only outside for about 10 minutes, and he spent the first 2 with me. I couldn’t believe how sweet he was, how good he smelled, or how warm his hands were when they brushed mine. He is even more beautiful in person, with flawless skin and that twinkle in his eye. And it’s true that when he’s talking to you, you’re the only person in the world at that moment, because he focuses solely on you and what you’re saying. With all of the screaming and noise around us, his eyes never once wavered from me when he spoke to me, which amazed me.

Basically, besides my wedding day, this was the best night of my life, and made the 8-hour flight earlier in the day so worth it. The whole trip was just to meet him, and I did with no problems. I only hope the rest of his fans are as lucky.

Here’s some pictures from that night that my friend took, and one of my signed programme. There’s also a YouTube video that one of the girls in the crowd took and sent to me.

ETA: I’ve just been sent 2 more videos of Orlando from that night. Tara and I are clearly visible in the first one, and the second one is Orlando moving through the crowd. Credit goes to Nick Harris for the videos. Enjoy!
